Jon's 13th Birthday

Jon got to open presents and we took him out to a late lunch at one of his favorite sushi restraunts on his big day. He went and did baptisms that night. He told me, "What better place to spend my birthday." Wow! We must be doing something right!
He wore a button to school that said "It's my Birthday" I can't believe that he wore that to Jr. High!

He had a great birthday! Were glad that you are in our family! We love you!

Jon first celebrated with his friends. We went to Wabi Sabi which is like Benihana I forgot the camera so no photo there but then we came home and had cake and they had a great time...asking to order pizza at 2 am? Anybody know anywhere that delivers at 2 am?

things have been crazy busy here, but here are some recent happenings...

A BIG THANKS TO STEVE AND JOHN

We went on an annual hike with some friends over Christmas (ooops winter) break.

This year we chose a ladder like. We hadn't done this since Lyndsee was 4. This

time she was running ahead with all the teenagers. In the photo we are getting ready

to climb the ladder down the crevace. AWESOME HIKE!

Steve turned the big 51 in January so

we made a big fireball!

Tanner had his Eagle Court of Honor in

it takes a while to get all the paperwork done.

It has been a crazy past few days in Chino Hills....

The fire started in Corona and Yorba Linda which are just over the hill from Chino hills on Saturday night. Many families in our ward were evacuated in the on Sat. afternoon and are just now getting back into their houses. Everyone's houses are fine. We have a ton of ash all over our patio and in the pool, tomorrow the kids are going to hose off the patio. Lucky us the kids didn't have school today, and we found out a couple of hours ago that there is no school tomorrow! LUCKY US! They say that the air quality is bad. I thought that today was beautiful so we went to Disneyland...It was great our longest line was 15 min. I told the kids that I have got to get to the market and costco tomorrow the fun is over. It is kind of nice to have a couple of extra days off that we were not expecting! BEST THING...no seminary!

I realized that it has been a while since I last updated:

Cross Country season is in full swing. Tanner is doing great. Every meet he gets a better time. I don't know how he does it running in 100 degree weather for 5-6 miles everyday! The guy is awesome. He is one of the fastest on the freshman team...way to go Tanner!

Jon is playing soccer again! He is really good. It is kind of scary though, the way that his birthday falls he is sometimes playing against freshmen. But he can really hold his own. He is very fast! He just had a scout court of honor and got his STAR and a bunch of merit badges. Well on his way to LIFE which he will get in the required 6 months! Way to go Jon!

Lyndsee has taken up the piano. She is getting to be pretty good. She is a great sight reader and memorizes a song by the third time playing it. I told her that she needs to find a sport to take on to get some physical activity since the pool has cooled down. So the search is on....Lyndsee, you are great!

Tanner had a great birthday! We had California Pizza Kitchen for dinner (yum, yum) and pie for dessert! He was ordained a Teacher a few weeks ago! He is really growing up! and right now he is finishing up the write-up for his eagel project!

if you turn your head you can get the idea. I usually get all the kids together for a first day of school photo, but they all leave at a different time. Nobody was ready at the same time.

3 kids, 3 different schools, early morning seminary, PTA president with a brand new principal...It is going to be a crazy year or 2 until they are back to 2 schools. So far everyone is happy, Jon is a little overwhelmed with his work load, but he is a very smart kid and will do great. Tanner says that 70% of the guys in his high school have ear piercings...crazy. It is fun to hear about all their crazy (yes, jon has one that we believe is crazy) teachers and experiences and it has only been 4 days.

Last night we went over to another families house for a bbq and swim party and Stacey was talking about putting starbursts on a hot dog stick and putting it over the fire. Well, we tried it...it was so good. You do have to watch and not put it right in your mouth because you can burn yourself. Try it!

Tomorrow (Friday) Jon and Lyndsee get to go to the Perfect Attendance/Gold honor roll lunch. They both have perfect attendance this year an Jon got Straight A's all year and Lyndsee had straight A's in one trimester.

Tanner has done really great also. He has only had 2 B's all year. In English...who would have thought since it is our native language. They don't do anything really for them in Jr. High. except for their graduation on Thursday....

6TH GRADE ACTIVITIES BEGIN

Yesterday, the 6th grade activities began. 6th graders against the parents. Each class was against their parents in a softball game. We would have won too if the
6th graders didn't get 6 outs every inning. We have never heard of such a thing. Today the 6th graders got their yearbooks. I wish I had a yearbook from elementary school. Bowling day to come...party to come...promotion. 4 more school days left!!!

Crazy California Weather

A couple of weeks ago Steve was released from serving on the High Council for the past 4 years, before that he was in the bishopric for about 3 years. It is nice having him sit with the family in Church again. He is now the Deacon's quorum advisor, which is really enjoying. Tanner was just called as the Deacon's quorum president and Jon will become a Deacon in June. They guys will all be together---hope they don't get sick of each other.

Yesterday it was 85, today is 90 and tomorrow it is supposed to be 95! It's great the kids have not been inside all day! First, it was lunch at In-n-Out, then a much needed trip to Costco (out of milk, bread, eggs...) Now the kids are having a water war with all the neighborhood kids. Then it is on to a little league baseball game to see a good friend play! Summer (well, I guess it is still spring) is the best!

Tonight Steve and I went to jr. high parent orientation. This is where they tell you that your kids are going to lie to you...It was the same old speel that we heard two years ago. Steve thinks that we should try to get Jon into Algebra. But since he had such a crappy year last year we will have to see if his test scores will get him in. If they went on this years, no problem. We'll see. Jon has student orientation on Sat. Morning. I can't believe that Jon is going to Jr. High. Let alone Tanner going to high school.

Steve and Tanner went on a scout backpacking trip yesterday, so Jon Lyndsee and I went to Chili's for dinner and then came home and I painted Lyndsee's room until 11:00, the kids went to bed at 9:30 (smart since Jon had to be at his soccer game at 7:30am). I got the first coat, which was just a primer since we had to cover up the coral paint. Then for some reason I woke up at 4:45 after going to sleep at 12:30, I got up and put the second coat of paint on before we left for a very exciting soccer game. Jon probably had the best game of all his years together---although he has scored more goals in a game than he did today. Jon was on defense for 1 quarter and was spectacular---he never let anything past him then the last 2 quarters he was forward---awaesome job. He was on that ball. He made one spectacular goal and nearly had another and then had a great assist. His team won 2-0. After the game we came home and finished the second coat then went to Costco for some much needed groceries. Tanner and Steve got home soon after we did then we were off to Tanner's game. We didn't know how it was going to go since we were playing the 1st place team and Tanner's team really hasn't been all that great this year. Well the other team scored 2 quick goals (which were off sides, and not called)then we scored then they scored then Tanner scored while he was playing defense, I might add. The score ended up being 3-3. It was an exciting game. I should have worn real shoes, but of course I was wearing flip, flops, and fall is upon us. It was really getting cold by the end of the game. I don't know how Lyndsee does it wearing shorts in this weather. Now I am off to call the neighbor to get the name of the people who put in crown molding in their house so I can finish off Lyndsee's room with crown molding. It was great Lyndsee brought it up to Steve so I didn't have to. He can't say no to her.

CHOCOLATE ON THE SEAT OF THE CAR

As Steve is getting Jon and Lyndsee out the door to take them to school, Jon is yelling from the garage "Mom, come see this" I go out to the garage and I see chocolate smeared on the seat of the car---my new car, by the way. "Tanner!" Of course he is already gone to school. We all know that it was him because he came walking in with a chocolate covered apple after scouts last night (which he probably mooched off the YW). So, after checking out on the internet "how to get chocolate out of car interior" I did what it said. It actually came out and looks good. So, Tanner may not die after school. New rule: now there is no longer food allowed in the car, it used to be no food consumed in the car. Thanks to Tanner new rule.

This week Steve and I went to Jon and Lyndsee's teacher conferences. It was great both of their teachers told us what great kids we have. Lyndsee's teacher actually said the word "PERFECT" in our conference. Lyndsee's teacher wants to see her get straight A's---she's close so I guess if that is the only thing that we need to do...
Jon already has straight A's---so he just needs to hang on to them. Jon's teacher has him sitting next to someone who needs some extra help---I guess that it seems to be working out, Jon is doing great and Jacob is doing pretty good. Then Yesterday we got Tanner's progress report in the mail all A's and 1 B. This year I have kind of backed off and if the kids ask for help I help them otherwise I just make sure that they have it done. I guess it has worked. I have some great kids. If they would just do their chores they would be the greatest.

Tanner has had quite the delima as of late. He is playing soccer and has a game each Saturday, well this Friday and Saturday the scouts are going to the river for tubing, wake boarding and cliff jumping. He has been deciding which he should do. It has been fun to watch him make a decision. Well, he is going on the scout trip---he is the patrol leader and new to the Deacons quorum presidency, so I think that helped him make the decision. I just hope that he doesn't kill himself.

TOMATO SOUP

Since today was, according to Winnie the Pooh, a very blustry day...complete with wind, rain, and it was cold. I actually took Lyndsee some sweats to school to pull over her shorts, Yes, I did see the weather this morning and it said sunny, 78 degrees, It wasn't even close. So, everyone wore shorts and t-shirts to school today. I actually started out wearing shorts and of course, flip flops but after standing outside this morning putting on red ribbon week braclets on the kids comming into school and watching the clouds come and the rain come, by the time I was done I was freezing and I think that I am just starting to warm up now. Anyway, back to the tomato soup, I thought since it was such a miserable ugly day that I would make grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner. Well, three kids, three different reactions to the soup. Lyndsee: Can I have seconds? Jon: dipped the back of his spoon into the soup and said this is discusting and it is only good if the grilled cheese is dipped into it. Tanner: This is gross, but to his credit he put the bowl up to his mouth and chugged, he didn't take a breath until it was gone, and then so was his glass of water. So, I guess it just goes to prove...you can't please them all.

Jon came home from soccer practice tonight and took a shower (thank goodness), first he uses axe shower gel, so the bathroom smells pretty strong then he gets out and proceeds to spray tag all over his body. The whole upstairs is smelling great...? At least Jon is finally to the point that he sees how important hygiene is. It might be time for the talk.

FRIDAY FAMILY NITE

It seems as though we always have something going everynight of the week. Tonight was an exception --- so we went out to dinner, then went bowling, and had Dairy Queen for dessert. It was so much fun to spend sometime together without having to think about soccer, homework, PTA, or church stuff. Here's to family. Now tomorrow we will think soccer, vocabulary and speeches.

HOW MUCH EARLIER IS IT?

So yesterday morning, which would be Monday, the alarm goes off I get right out of bed hop in the shower (like I do everyday) and as I am climbing out of the shower, Steve (the husband) says to me "you know it's earlier than normal?" I said, "how much earlier?" he says, "a lot earlier." and then he proceedes to get into the shower...I walk over to the ironing board to plug it in and glance at the alarm clock: 4:52am....I blink my eyes a few times...4:53am well, there was nothing I could do about it now so I just proceeded to get ready (since I knew that if I went back to bed I would feel worse than if I just stayed up). It was amazing the amount of things that I got done with nobody around asking for something. By 8:30 last night I was snoring.

Well the teachers did not waste anytime piling on the homework. Then the boys had soccer practice and Lyndsee started another session of tennis (she hasn't been all summer). I spent all morning trying to assign room parents to all the teachers in the school then spent all afternoon calling thema all. Then trying to fit in the church stuff that I am supposed to be taking care of. Well, tomorrow should be a much calmer day. Laundry.

Ok, Tanner just got his life in Boy Scouts. Now he has the 3 hardest and longest merit bades to go. He also has to just finish up 2 and do 2 fun ones (which he says they are going to do in scouts in the next couple of months) He has a goal to have his Eagle in 9 months---it is possible if he gets his act together. I don't know if I can get on him with homework and merit badges at the same time. It is going to be a long fall.

BACK TO SCHOOL

It's the most wonderful time of the year! The first day of school. I had so much fun with the kids this summer I think that I will miss them around all day. The kids had a great day at school. Tanner is the big 8th grader and the big man on campus---or so he likes to think. One of his classes is T.A. for P.E. (whatever that means---in his words---easy A) It sounds like he is going to like all of his classes, especially science since his teacher already made a fireball for them today. Jon is in 6th grade and thinks that he is also the big man on campus---they are going to have a rude awaking next year when they will be scrubs all over again. Anyway, Jon---already had a ton of homework tonight---at least he was doing it long enough. Lyndsee is a 4th grader which makes it no more primary grades for us. I think she is going to have the biggest adjustment this year. She already had a math test today and has to do a 2 minute speech on Friday. If she applies herself she will do great. I don't know if I am ready for the homework yet though! I am also doing noon ground supervising at the Elementary school---It went great today except for the fact that it was 105 degrees in the shade. Don't ask what it was on the black top. At least the principal didn't have the kids outside much. Well, here's to the first day of school!!

I love the beach! Tanner, Lyndsee and I spent the day at the beach with another family today! We had a blast! There is something about sun, surf and sand to totally relax you and ready for another day. It looks like we will go again tomorrow! School is going to start way to soon and we won't have anymore play time. I love summer!

Ok that was a lot harder than I thought that it would be.

Tanner is back from camp with 4 merit badges (thank goodness) he also swam a mile (what a guy!) It was good to get him back. Now Jon is at the Beach in Carlsbad with a friend who moved to Oregon. Someday our family will all be back together. It is strange not having everyone together.

SOMEONE IS MISSING

Tanner left for scout camp on Saturday, it's strange having him gone. It is amazing how different things are when just one person is gone. It will be great to see him on Saturday. He is one great kid!

SOCCER SEASON IS UPON US

Well, the time of year we all look forward to is here. Soccer season. It won't be as crazy as we thought. At least Jon and Tanner both practice on M and W right after each other so from 7 to 9:30 we'll be at the soccer fields. Also, when Lyndsee starts playing tennis again she will be right in the middle of it. At least they are all on the same days. Things are crazy but it is really fun watching the kids do things that they love. There is something very satisfying about seeing your kids really happy.

LUCKY

Well, I am attemping something new...blogging. My sister started blogging a few months ago and made the point that it saves those of us who don't write in a journal...well, that's me so we will try and see how it goes. The 3 kids and Steve are all in different "lucky" directions tonight. Well, Lyndsee is still here she just has a friend sleeping over (her parents are in Hawaii---lucky), Tanner is at a YM/YW beach party (lucky), Jon is at a birthday party across the street, getting dunked in a dunk tank (is that lucky or not?). Steve is at work in an air conditioned office (lucky). I guess everyone is having a lucky night but me!
